The Guácharos cave National Park was the first area in Colombia declared a National Park in 1960. It belongs to the Andean Belt Biosphere Reserve declared by UNESCO in 1979. The Park takes its name from the Guácharos, birds that inhabit dark and deep caves. during the day and go out at night to look for food, guided by an echolocation system similar to that of bats.
